Important Information for Your Turks & Caicos Vacation

We’ve compiled practical tips for your trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands so that your time at Hotel La Vista Azul is as relaxing as possible. From currency and language to climate and dress, we’ve got you covered.

Cable Television
Satellite television service is provided throughout the islands, with most major American networks available.

Climate
The average temperature ranges between 85 and 90 degrees (29-32 degrees Celsius) from June to October, sometimes reaching the mid 90’s (35 degrees Celsius) in the late summer months. From November to May the average temperature is 80 to 84 degrees (27-29 degrees Celsius). A constant trade wind keeps the climate at a very comfortable level, with an average 350 days of sunshine a year!

Clothing
Pack light! Cool, casual, comfortable hotel and leisure wear is acceptable everywhere. Overexposure from the sun can happen quickly, sunscreen is strongly recommended. A hat and cover-up for extra protection is advisable. Swim wear worn other than poolside or at the beach is frowned upon. It is a rare occasion to need a light sweater at night. Just a few restaurants require “proper attire”. (NOTE:Public Nudity is illegal throughout the islands.)

Courier & Mail Service
Post Offices are located on all inhabited islands. Daily delivery service is provided by FedEx, with offices on Provo and Grand Turk. Service is also provided by DHL and UPS.

Currency
The US dollar is the official currency of Turks and Caicos. Most credit cards are accepted and banks offer ATM’s as well as cash advances on credit cards.

Customs and Immigration
Duty free goods that may be brought in to the Islands include: 50 cigars, 200 cigarettes, 1.136 liters of spirits or wine and perfume for personal use.
All visitors must hold a round trip ticket.

Driving License Requirements
Visitors from the British Commonwealth Countries, the U.S., Canada and holders of International driver’s licenses are permitted to drive for 30 days on their respective license. All other visitors are required to possess a Visitor’s Permit, which can be obtained at the Road Safety Department, located on the Old Airport Road, Providenciales.

Electricity
110 volt/60 cycle, suitable for U.S. appliances.

Health Care
Providenciales is home to a new world-class hospital managed by Interhealth Canada, as well as a number of private medical centres and practitioners.

The country code for Turks and Caicos is 649. Your cell phone should work during your stay in the Turks and Caicos if you have international roaming.

Time Zone
Atlantic Standard Time (AST) is the year round time observed in Turks and Caicos.

Tipping
Normally paid to waiters, taxi drivers, maids and porters at 15%.

Water
As on many Islands, our fresh water is precious as we depend upon rainfall or desalinated water produced by reverse osmosis. Please be conservative in using water.
